Does the SLEEP DETOX Tamarind Powder work? Team SWIISH investigates.

Like a lot of people these days, I’ve had sleep issues for as long as I can remember. Having a Type A personality and being a self-confessed workaholic in a fast-paced environment certainly doesn’t help when it comes to winding down and turning my brain off at the end of a long busy day. You can read about my journey so far here and how SLEEP Superfood Powder has already helped me a lot. Based on how quickly that worked, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try a few more powders to build on the sleep gains already made.
WHAT IS THE SLEEP DETOX POWDER?
While this powder is called SLEEP DETOX, it’s not a cleanse in the way we usually think of a ‘detox’. More accurately, it’s a ‘sleep detox’. The science behind it relates to a reset of the tiny pineal gland, situated in the brain. This pea-sized gland produces melatonin, the hormone that naturally induces sleep. So, why does it need a detox? Fluoride, found in our water supplies and toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay, can build up over time in the pineal gland which can mess with your melatonin production (and natural sleep cycles). So for chronic insomniacs like me, who’ve literally already tried everything else, this powder could be a game-changer.
TO KICK IT UP A NOTCH…
’All disease begins in the gut’ – while this is a popular phrase used often in wellness circles, I’m a believer. And so is science – studies show a clear connection between gut health and both insomnia and mood regulation. Could this be the missing link I hadn’t considered in my sleep journey? Based on this, I decided to add the SUPERGREEN Superfood Powder into my daily routine as well. Inconsistent sleep (and sleep quality) meant I was often tired during the day and felt like I was running on empty. Plus I love food, but lately I had been feeling bloated and uncomfortable after meals. While I didn’t have any food intolerances as such, it was clear my body wasn’t functioning at its best. SUPERGREENS, with its promise of energy and vitality, plus vital nutrients and digestive support, sounded like just what I needed.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
The main, and only, ingredient in SLEEP DETOX Powder is tamarind, an edible tropical fruit and powerful superfood. You only need to take the powder twice a week on consecutive days – I have mine on the weekend (Sat/Sun) so I don’t forget. It has a tangy, kind of citrus taste to it – it’s that kind of alkaline acidity like lemon water, where you can just feel it gently cleansing your insides as it goes down. I take SUPERGREENS powder most days in the morning for energy before work – but on the weekends I mix it with the DETOX powder and take them together, down the hatch in 1/3 cup of water. P.S. Everything you’ve heard about our SUPERGREENS is true – it tastes delish, unlike most other greens powders. The other ones I’ve tried honestly tasted like grass clippings or pure wheatgrass. Bleurgh. THE VERDICT: DID IT WORK?
In short, yes. But for me SLEEP DETOX worked slightly differently to the SLEEP Superfood Powder, which works almost instantly after the first serve. This may be to do with the fact that you only need to take SLEEP DETOX a couple of days a week – I take the SLEEP Powder every single night. After about 3 weeks of consistent use (taking it twice a week), I began to notice that my sleep was even deeper, I could fall asleep faster, and I woke feeling even more rested. I didn’t think it was possible to sleep any better than I already was using the SLEEP powder, but adding SLEEP DETOX into my routine really took it to the next level.
Working alongside these two, the SUPERGREENS really helped to kickstart my day energy-wise – a blessing for the sleep-deprived. It literally works as soon as you take it. Even though I took it in the morning, it seemed to last all day and smooth out my energy peaks and lows – while you can take a second serve in the afternoon, I found I didn’t even need the extra boost. I am notoriously caffeine-sensitive though, so perhaps the small amount of green tea in the formula kept me going. The anti-bloating effect is almost immediate as well which was a huge bonus. Within half an hour of taking it, my tummy felt flatter. My pants don’t lie. All I know for sure is, three is the magic number – this trio undeniably works for me, and better in combination than on their own, and I am now getting the best sleep of my life.
