I love mascara. The power it has to transform your face, making the colour of your eyes pop and your face look brighter. But what you may not realise is that there are a number of different mascara wands that have different purposes.
Corkscrew BrushesThese brushes have corkscrew shaped bristles, which make them excellent for separating each individual lash and applying a lengthening coat of mascara. For the best effect, start at the very bottom of your lash and wiggle the wand back and forth as you work it up your lashes. swiish loves: Natio Lash Definition Mascara, $16.95
All in OneThese brushes do it all – lengthen, curl and plump lashes. Their wands are unique in that they may have a brush with slanted bristles, or even a ball shaped brush at the bottom of the wand. These mascaras, though they may be a little more pricey are definitely the ones that can have the highest impact on your lashes – making them look thick, long and full. High drama, high chic. swiish loves: YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking, $52
The Skinny BrushThe best feature of these brushes is the length of the wand that lets you work your way right into those hard to reach lashes in the corners of your eyes. The brush helps you to separate and add length without leaving a messy trail of clumpy mascara in your wake. This is one for those who love long lash extension-like effect. swiish loves: Maybelline Illegal Lengths Fiber Extensions, $18.50
High-Tech HitThis revolutionary brush revolves 360 degrees, doing all of the hard work for you to lengthen, curl and volumise your lashes. The wand spins to imitate a make-up artist’s mascara application and rotates in both directions so you can use it easily whether you’re left or right handed. Amazing! swiish loves: Christian Dior, Diorshow 360° Mascara, $44.50 |
swiish tips:
- Always use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes before applying mascara – it makes a world of difference
- Never add layers of mascara to lashes that still have yesterday’s application on them – it’s one of the quickest ways to contaminate your mascara wand
- Don’t pump your mascara wand into and out of the tube – the air will cause the mascara to dry out faster than it should
