Mmmmmm falafels. All those Mediterranean flavours meshed into a tasty little croquette with a soft, spicy centre and a crispy outside – they are just too good! But guess what? We know another way to make them that might just be even better.
Yep. Recently, we’ve been in the kitchen making a new type of falafel, made with lentils, as opposed to chickpeas. It’s called a ‘falentil’ and its claim to fame is being a softer, tastier, healthier and easier-to-make version of the classic falafel.
We were sceptical at first but being cooks and lovers of food, we figured that the proof is in the pudding! Trust us when we say that falentils are all they’re cracked up to be. Plus they are easy to make. You don’t need any fancy tools to make them and they are an absolute treat. Softer, tick! Delicious, tick! Easier-to-make, tick! Safe to say we’ve found a winner.
Aside from the taste-factor, falentils have some awesome health benefits as well. They’re high in protein for a vegetarian dish and are rich in complex carbohydrates for slow-burning energy. They’re also rich in dietary fibre, lean folate and iron.
While you might not have heard much about falentils, we have no doubt they’ll soon be the next big thing. Next thing you know they’ll be serving them up at every café and corner store in your area. But until then, you can easily them at home with this recipe…
