Feeling blue, ladies? Nope, not us. We’re feeling cobalt blue, and in a very big way. When Isabel Marant released her coveted Bekket sneakers in this incredible hue, we really sat up and took notice… memo: cobalt blue is ON right now. There has been plenty of cobalt on the runways – Balenciaga, Celine, and Stella McCartney are just some of the big houses that have been incorporating cobalt blue into their collections, and we think they are definitely onto something. But this oh-so-cool colour doesn’t have to come with a designer label or a designer price tag.
It’s bold, sexy, bright, fun and as we’ve noticed, surprisingly easy to work cobalt blue into our summer wardrobes. If you’re feeling unsure about it, start small with accessories, or even cobalt nails can make a fresh statement.
If you’re feeling braver, try a standout cobalt dress a la Blake Lively, at your next Christmas or New Year party and let the compliments roll in. It’s always great to see bright, festive outfits this time of year, and dressing with colour is an easy way to spread sartorial cheer.
Lucky for us, blue and black together is no longer a fashion no-no, but a very big fashion yes-yes, so we’ll be injecting the once-forbidden pair into our work wardrobes. Match a clean cut blue blazer with black cigarette pants and you’ll have it down pat.
Just keep in mind, it’s a strong colour and it demands attention, so try to mix with neutral shades such as white, grey or black for full effect. This looks so simple and so chic and really amps up the minimalist style which has become so admired worldwide.
