We all know there is plenty to romanticise about winter. From curling up with a book you’ve been dying to read, to that warm mug of GLOW Chocolate that we’ve all been craving, winter can truly be a spectacular season. But perhaps the less glamorous part is the dreaded change to our skin’s condition. For many of us unfortunately, this seasonal shift is known to cause that unwanted dry, flaky skin. Here we unpack 5 hydration hacks, to maintain our skin’s natural barrier!
1. Turn Down the Heat
Even though there is nothing better than a nice hot shower or bath on a chilly winter’s day, it has been shown that hot water has the potential to strip the skin’s barrier of natural protective oils. Alongside this we are using our day-to-day soap and cleansers which can exacerbate this removal of good oils, ultimately drying our skin out. So, try keeping your cleansing at a lukewarm temperature to avoid disrupting your natural skin barrier.
2. Hydrate from the Inside Out
Rehydration begins from within. The secret to achieving flawless skin during winter, lies much deeper than our usual topical treatments. Studies have indicated the benefits of collagen on skin health and they are game changing. Not only does it enhance elasticity, support gut health, and reduce fine lines. It has the power to increase the skin’s water content and overall hydration. Our GLOW range includes 3 collagen powders, GLOW Chocolate Collagen Powder is our favourite for the cold winter months, allowing us to reap the benefits of collagen whilst enjoying its deliciousness at the same time – yum!

3. 2L of H2O
Did you know that in winter we can still become dehydrated? It’s true! Although we mostly associate dehydration with those sweaty hot summer days, winter can also leave us dehydrated. What causes this? Constant indoor heating. Whilst cosy, it has the potential to dry our skin out. That is why it’s important to maintain our water intake during winter. So, by drinking the recommended amount (2L/day), we are setting ourselves up for the best protection against the winter air.
4. Review Your Routine
When was the last time you revised your skin care routine? It is great practice to evaluate our skincare routine every now and then, especially during a seasonal change. With the threat of extra dry skin, switching to richer moisturisers and gentle cleansers will provide more effective coverage against the cold. When choosing skincare products during winter it is crucial to read the labels and identify what is in each product. Ingredients to steer clear from are drying alcohols, phenoxyethanol, artificial colours and fragrances. These all have the potential to further dehydrate and irritate the skin.
