This winter, it’s all about understated beauty. Opting for a neutral shade for your nails is a sure-fire hit. But, there are a few little tricks this season that can make your conservative nail colour look oh so chic. The gold half-moon is one.
The best part about this trend looks good with most colours, so if you feel like vamping it up a little, try it with darker shades as well (navy looks amazing!).
Here’s how to do it:
- Start with a subtle base colour, the gold works best with a nude or white base. Try Essie Sand Tropez, $14.95. For a more dramatic look, you could also try this look with other colours too.
- Once completely dry, place a a french manicure tip sticker upside down on each nail to give you a guide for your half moons. I like to use these Nailene ones. They’re the perfect size and shape and a steal at only $6.99.
- Paint the half moons gold. We love Butter LONDON The Full Monty, $22.00 and Maybelline Colour Show Brocades Knitted Gold, only $5.95.
- Once half moons are dry, make sure you paint a top coat to prevent chipping. I use Essie Care Good to Go Top Coat, $17.95. And voila! You’re done!

swiish tip: For a little added extra sparkle, paint the tips of your nails gold as well, or use a statement colour for high-impact nails!
