There are a thousand beauty products under the sun that can make our tresses longer, shorter, frizz-free, voluminous, lighter or darker – you name it, there’s a product for it! And as much as we looooove a good hair product (it’s a borderline addiction), like most things, beauty starts on the inside.
You all know that we love fuelling our body with the best food, so in the name of luscious locks, here are the superfoods you should be getting into your diet, for super healthy hair.
We see smashed avo everywhere on our Insta feeds and we’re not going to lie, it’s become our favourite go-to brunch order like everyone else. Not only are avocados absolutely delicious but they are also packed full of nutrients such as Vitamin E, which helps to moisturise and replenish dry and frizzy hair. So next time you’re at a weekend brunch and you want to buy the overpriced smashed avocado, you have our permission. After all, it’s good for your hair (and health!).
Another breakfast staple that does wonders for your locks is the humble egg. Eggs are rich in protein and biotin, which helps make the hair follicles stronger, meaning no brittle and split ends for you! Yippeeee! An easy way to add eggs into your diet is by hard-boiling them for an easy snack on the go or adding them into any sort of salad. Yummo!
When we heard calcium was good for our hair, we hotfooted it straight to the supermarket to buy a massive tub of ice cream. Hahaha we wish! But, the point is that calcium promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss when balanced with a healthy diet. Our pick would be Greek yoghurt, and white cheeses such as ricotta or burrata.
You either love them or hate them, but there’s no denying that oysters can do wonders for luscious locks. Oysters are chock-full of zinc and contain over 400% of the recommended daily serve of zinc. Zinc is so important to include in your diet because it promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss and shedding. If oysters aren’t your thing, chickpeas and nuts will also do the zinc trick.
If you aren’t the greatest fans of oysters (no judgement here), you’ll be thrilled to know that nuts are another great source of zinc, which is pivotal in maintaining a healthy hair diet. The best thing about nuts is that they can literally be added to anything – sweet or savoury – for extra taste and texture. Add some almonds to your morning muesli or walnuts to a salad for extra flavour and the added health benefits.
You’ve heard it here once (okay, probably more than once haha) and you’ll hear it here again – we cannot tell you about the benefits of leafy greens enough! Not only are leafy greens a natural source of vitamins and antioxidants to aid healthy immunity and digestion, but their properties also ensure healthy hair, skin and nails! Spinach and kale are our favourite greens and we know they can be quite boring to eat which is why we add them to all of our favourite super green smoothies!
