Gelato, candy and cupcakes. Those are the words that come to mind when we think of pastels. Last year we raved about our love for this delicious colour scheme and it’s back again for another round. This year, pastels are bigger than ever.
This year, though, we’re seeing a bit of a revamp from last year’s washed out tones of baby blue and pink. For Summer 13/14, the colours are more vibrant and are all about fresh, sharp, bright pops of pastel. Think sky blue, zesty orange and lemon yellow. We’ve got tips and tricks to have you looking pretty in pastels.
We love to pair our pastels with black. Although they seem like polar opposites, black works as a great contrast. We love to pair candy coloured pastel tops and jackets with leather shorts or leggings. Have a pastel dress or playsuit? Complete the look with a black patent belt and killer heels.
The Spring 2013 catwalks at Christian Dior and 3.1 Philip Lim have proven that wearing different shades of one pastel colour is hot hot hot! Think skinny jeans and silk tanks. Make sure the tones are slightly different to avoid looking too much like a musk stick!
Match your pastels with florals! We love floral skirts or high wasted shorts. Complete the look with strappy heels or flats and simple accessories.
If you’re not ready to go full-blown pastel, don’t worry – you can still get in on the action. Pastel accessories and shoes are everywhere at the moment. You can even try pastel coloured nails or if you’re a little more daring, pastel hair chalk!
