Marcus and I have been married for 11 years, but we still have regular date nights. I like to wear make-up looks that last through the evening, whether it’s dinner at a hot new restaurant, or a casual trip to the movies. So whether it’s your first date or you’ve been happily loved up for ages, it’s time for a fresh look for your date night make-up too. Our swiish guide shows you how.
Dewy
Inspired by the Alexander Wang, Chloe and Gucci runways, a ‘dewy’ finish to your makeup leaves you looking soft and pretty. It radiates light and makes your skin appear fresh, young and energized, giving you a great glow! To get the dewy look, apply a tinted moisturiser to hydrate your skin as well as give it a touch of warm colour. We love Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Base, $70 from David Jones.
To brighten your face and accentuate your features, we recommend using a highlighter. Apply it to the tops of the cheekbones, down the length of the nose, across the Cupid’s bow (middle of the top lip) and onto the centre of the forehead, and work it into the skin. Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator is a favourite of beauty editors and works for all skin types and tones. $40, Clinique.
Brush a shimmer powder or soft pink toned blush onto your cheeks. Try Topshop Blush in Head Over Heels, approx $8.85. For a simple look that wows, apply only mascara. Benefit They’re Real Mascara, $38, lengthens, curls, volumises, lifts and separates, and is long wearing so it will last through your date.
Finish with a lip-smacking gloss, like Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Electrify, $22 from Myer.
Glam
If you want a more dramatic look, you’re guaranteed to get attention with this one! Start by moisturising your skin, and then use a base primer to smooth out flaws and keep makeup looking fresh. We recommend M·A·C Prep Prime, $45. Next, apply your foundation – we like Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Foundation, $80, because it contains natural collagen and skin firming peptides.
Use cult-favourite concealer, YSL Touche Eclat, $55, to highlight your brow bones and the outer corners of your eyes to make them pop. If you’re brave, opt for false eyelashes like Napoleon Perdis Lashes in Camellia, $15, or otherwise, curl your eyelashes and apply a few coats of black mascara. Liner on your top lid will help to make your eyes look even larger and will add shape depending on your line. swiish recommends Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner, $13.95 from Priceline. A subtle eye shadow will work best, try Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in RSVP, $35 from Myer, is both creaseproof and smudgeproof so you can go sheer or layer more for dramatic impact.
Finally date night isn’t complete without kissable lips! Finish off your dramatic look with a bold lip. Try something with a bit of gloss and shine, to make those lips stand out and look supple and soft. We recommend Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Gloss in Cranberry Cocktail, $7.47 from Priceline.
Enjoy date night!
