THE TUCKED BRAID

If your memories of braids are from your school days – think too tight, pulling at the scalp, not so fun – then it’s time for some oh-so-chic amends to be made. Braids are feminine, elegant and can be effortless to master.

It’s fair to say that braids have had a major comeback and are rocking the red carpets and runways the world over. The simple tucked braid is one of my favourite braided looks.

This style is a winner in summer – it of course keeps you cool but even better, it requires no styling tools so you can give your straightener a well deserved break.

What To Do:

  1. Preparing the hair, brush your hair and ensure there are no tangles. Brush backwards away from your forehead.

  2. Sectioning your hair, take a 2-3 inch section of hair from the top centre of your hairline. Separate this section into 3 equal parts, so there is a left, right and centre strand.

  3. Pull the right strand over the centre strand, so that the right strand sits in the centre strand’s old position, and the centre strand in the right strand’s old position.

  4. Take the left strand and cross it over the centre strand, so that the centre strand becomes the new left strand, and the left strand the new centre strand.

  5. Hook a small section of hair on the right side of your head with your finger and add it to the current right strand.

  6. Pull the right strand over the centre strand.

  7. Hook a small section of hair on the left side of your head with your finger and add it to the current left strand.

  8. Pull the left strand over the centre strand.

  9. Continue the overlapping pattern, incorporating the rest of the hair into the braid in equal sections.

  10. Tie the end of your braid with an elastic band. Fold the tail in half, toward the neck.

  11. Loosen the hair at the nape of your neck with your fingers. Be sure not to pull too much at your braid!

  12. Neatly and carefully tuck the tail of the braid inside the hair at the nape of your neck. Use a couple of bobby pins to hold in place underneath.

♥ swiish tip:
To keep unwanted hair from falling out, add a little hair spray to finish it off or let some strands naturally fall out for a romantic, wispy effect.
